Calling all home bakers (all ages) to get cooking their favourite Shortbreads and enter this competition, proudly sponsored by the Loaf and Lounge, with three sections including Primary Age, Secondary Age and an Open Section. Entry forms are available from the Loaf and Lounge and from the festival website, Festival Coordinator Catherine O’Flynn said “Two categories, bake a Traditional or Fancy Shortbread. Judging will take place on Friday 26th of June. Why not make Camperdown the home of Shortbread and grow this event into something very special. There will be prizes for the winning entries and they will be presented at the Family Ceilidh on Saturday night at the Theatre Royal.
At the Library something for the Wee Ones ages 2 years – 13 years on Saturday morning Stories, Fun and Music with Anne Daffy and co presenting a hands on activities, storytelling and songs for the children from 10.00 am until 11.00am. Drop off the children or better still stay and join in with the fun.
If you love mythology and traditional stories, stroll down to the Masonic Hall at 11.15 am and hear Bill Spawtorn a Welshman share old Welsh Stories on Fairy Welsh Brides and Enchanted Animals, followed by the Lakes and Craters Band in Concert playing a great selection of music from , Ireland, Scotland, Wales.
Celtic Music at the Loaf and Lounge go in and shout yourself a cake and coffee and be entertained by the C’MERE T’ME it is the first time for Anne this Band performing in Camperdown with band members John Corby, Coby Barbary, Cait Corby, Maddy Barbary-Copley, Anne Daffy and Denise Daffy.
Whisky tasting, a popular exercise for lovers of fine Whisky, will be on at the Hampden Hotel on Saturday afternoon with live music featuring festival musicians performing an open music session.
The final Free event for Saturday is going to get you warmed up and ready for the Ceilidh’s on Saturday night. The Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club Ceilidh Band is running Scottish Country Dance Workshop at St Paul’s Church Hall, promises to be lots of fun, Scottish Country Dancing is similar to our Australian Bush Dancing, but Scottish, the Caller will take folk through the different steps, it really is a fabulous activity to do with mum’s and dad’s, children and is an all ages event said Catherine O’Flynn, “watching patrons get up and have a go provides great entertainment for the non-dancers with lots of chuckles, mistakes and laughter for the learners and for the committed Dancer to show the rest how it can be done. The workshop promises to be lots of fun, come on down to St Paul’s on Saturday afternoon to this Free Event.”
The Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club Ceilidh band will be playing on is Saturday night at the Theatre Royal with the Family Dance night from 6.30 – 7.50 pm and later at the Theatre Royal Festival Concert featuring Austral, Peter Daffy and Friends Celtic Band and the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle club Ceilidh Band. These two events are Ticketed, Children under 18 year Free.
Market Stalls in the Avenue on Saturday and Sunday with the Pipes being played from the Clock Tower.
Climb the Clock Tower and visit the Statue on Sunday morning to see the Twa Bards perform a tribute to Robert Burns to celebrate the life and character of Burns alongside the world’s oldest statue of the Bard.
Also happening in the Avenue Is a new little fun event “Show us your Tartan Parade” wear your Tartan and take part in a fashion Parade, with Prizes for best dressed Junior, senior section and best dress pet. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Camperdown. The Lakes and Craters Band will be playing in the Avenue and some buskers playing the pipes will be there also.
Other free events on Sunday is an Exhibition at the Heritage centre and acclaimed Quilt Maker and Textile Artist, Jenny Bowker AO will be showing a selection of her quilts and speak on the background of the designs.
Sunday morning at Killara a Free Event with Fiona Ross, The Celtic Way inspired by the Celtic contemplative tradition, offering held space for reflection, stillness, music imagery and prayer, inviting us to pause and listen deeply.
